HySpeed® Technology Accelerates Plasma Cutting Performance

Achieves laser-like cutting speeds for air plasma cutting

Achieves laser-like cutting speeds for air plasma cutting

HANOVER, NH, UNITED STATES, August 19, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Hypertherm Associates, a U.S.-based leading manufacturer of industrial cutting systems and software, launched its new HySpeed® technology (patent pending), enabling fabricators to achieve laser-like speeds through compatible Powermax SYNC® industrial and air plasma cutting systems. The advanced plasma cutting technology is specifically designed to significantly reduce cut-to-cut time for manufacturers leveraging nesting techniques and increase throughput in mechanized plasma cutting applications.

Developed for Powermax45 SYNC, 65 SYNC, 85 SYNC, and 105 SYNC plasma systems, the HySpeed technology combines optimized CAM nesting, intelligent torch motion, faster cutting speeds, and advanced gas management techniques to process parts faster while maintaining cut quality. For compatible Powermax SYNC models, manufacturers can immediately activate HySpeed to increase their system’s speed using their current equipment or invest in a new Powermax SYNC model.

For fab shops processing large nests with many parts and cut-outs, HySpeed technology dramatically reduces non-cutting time between pierces. The software maximizes machine productivity and output by minimizing torch retract time, optimizing travel paths, and allowing gas bleed-down to occur while the torch moves to the next pierce location.

When used on rigid cutting tables with high acceleration rates and capable motion and height control, HySpeed technology can achieve cutting speeds of up to 1,400 inches per minute (3,480 cm/min), as much as three times faster than traditional plasma cutting speeds and comparable to fiber laser on thin mild steel materials. This allows shops to achieve the benefits of laser-like cutting speeds with enhanced versatility and at a lower cost.

“HySpeed technology represents a significant step forward for light industrial and air plasma cutting,” said Ed Johnson, Product Manager at Hypertherm. “We challenge ourselves to push the possibilities of what’s achievable with our products, and in this case, we developed a plasma cutter that produces parts at the speed of laser without compromising on part quality.”

The technology is integrated through Hypertherm’s Powermax SYNC plasma systems, ProNest® or ProNest LT nesting software, and EDGE® Connect CNC with Phoenix® software. Together, these optimize part sequencing, lead placement, and torch travel paths to reduce unnecessary movement and maximize cutting efficiency.

In addition to higher cutting speeds, HySpeed technology reduces the risk of torch collisions and unplanned downtime by intelligently routing torch movement around cut parts and potential obstacles. It’s particularly effective when cutting thin mild steel materials ranging from 26 gauge to 3/16 inch (0.5 mm to 5 mm).

“HySpeed is a practical way to increase output while maintaining the cut quality and reliability that Powermax SYNC systems are known for,” added Johnson.
