Lok sabha elections 2019: A candidate with 2.5 ft moustache


Naib Subedar Maganbhai Lakhabhai Solanki is more in the news because of his moustache than his electoral battle. Maganbhai Solanki has a 2.5 ft moustache. Whenever he is among people, he proudly shows off his moustache. After seeing his moustache, voters often say, “Muchhe ho to Maganlal ke jaisi varna na ho.”

A total of 20 candidates will be contesting from Gujarat’s Sabarkantha district in the 17th Lok Sabha elections. The two major parties fighting for Sabarkantha seat are Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Out of the 20 candidates, 10 are contesting from political parties and 10 candidates are contesting independently. One such independent candidate fighting from Sabarkantha is Naib Subedar Maganbhai Lakhabhai Solanki.

Contesting independently from Gujarat’s Sabarkantha seat, Maganbhai Lakhabhai Solanki is retired army man. He participated in the Kargil war and was also deployed in Sri Lanka. He has been awarded with six medals for exceptional duty in the Army. He has also started a movement in Sabarkantha for employment generation, farm-loan waiving and crop insurance. Because of his moustache, Maganbhai Solanki has become a star campaigner in the area.

A large number of people gather here to see his moustache. Maganbhai is a native of Gujarat’s Himmatnagar. When asked about his moustache, he said, “Moustaches are Army jawans’s pride. I started keeping moustache after being recruited in the Army. Today, after 33 years, its 2.5 ft.” He takes around an hour to groom his moustache.
