Gurugram civic body told to deposit ₹25 lakh performance guarantee

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Gurugram Municipal Corporation to furnish a performance guarantee of ₹25 lakh to stop leachate at the Bandhwari landfill site.

A Bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel has directed the civic body to deposit the amount within one month.

Directing the civic body to follow the action plan prepared for the waste disposal, the Bench said, “It is made clear that the amount of ₹25 lakh will stand forfeited in the case of default and may be recovered from the erring officers of the corporation.”

NGT has further directed the municipal commissioner to file a compliance report to the tribunal.

The directions came while the green panel was hearing a plea by environmentalist Vivek Khamboj, who alleged that civic bodies of Gurugram and Faridabad were disposing the industrial and construction waste in the forest land of Aravalis.
