Chris Gayle on Monday broke David Warner’s record to become the fastest player to reach 4000 runs in the Indian Premier League. Warner, who plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad, reached the milestone in his 114th innings and became the first overseas player to get to 4000 IPL runs. Gayle stormed to 4000 runs in only his 112th innings and 113th match.
Chris Gayle is the second overseas player after David Warner to join the elite club. Overall, Gayle is the 9th batsman to score 4000 runs in the IPL. Three years ago, Royal Challengers Bangalore captain Virat Kohli became the first player to score 4000 runs in the IPL.
During the 2019 season opener on Saturday, Chennai Super Kings run-machine Suresh Raina beat Kohli to become the first man to score 5000 runs in the Indian Premier League.

Chris Gayle first played for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL in 2009. He played a few seasons for Royal Challengers Bangalore before moving to Kings XI Punjab in 2018. In 11 matches last year, Gayle scored 368 runs including a hundred and 3 fifties.
Overall, Gayle has scored 6 hundreds – the most by any player in the Indian Premier League. He also has 24 fifties in the IPL.
Chris Gayle also holds the record for the highest individual score in the IPL – an unbeaten 175 against Pune Warriors in 2013.
Gayle was at his best from 2011 to 2013. In 2011, he scored 608 runs from 12 matches before scoring 733 runs in 15 matches next year. In 2013, Gayle scored 708 runs from 16 matches including that barnstorming 175 not out.
In his last season for Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2017, Chris Gayle scored 200 runs from 9 matches. Later, Virat Kohli said RCB let go of Gayle because his team wanted to look at the future and decided to infuse new people.
